Walk Through History: Bible Edition

In 2024, I committed to listening to the entire Bible within a year. As I journeyed through the Old Testament, I found myself wondering where these events fit within the broader scope of history. My search for a comprehensive chronological order of the Bible proved unsuccessful, and it was then that I felt led to create one myself. I invite you to join me on this journey—walking through history as we explore Scripture in its historical context.

Day 242: Ezekiel 13-15

10 min
Welcome back to Day 242 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Today we are reading Ezekiel chapters 13 through 15.
As Ezekiel continues his ministry to the exiles in Babylon, God confronts false prophets who are telling people exactly what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear. While Jerusalem is racing toward judgment, these leaders are promising peace, safety, and prosperity. Through vivid illustrations, God exposes their deception and reminds His people that a message is not true simply because it sounds encouraging.
In today's reading, we will see the danger of building our lives on lies, the importance of genuine repentance, and God's desire for truth among His people. Ezekiel 15 concludes with a powerful picture of a vine that has become useless because it is no longer producing fruit, challenging us to consider whether our lives are fulfilling the purpose for which God created us.
As you listen today, pay attention to the contrast between human promises and God's truth. Even in passages filled with warning and judgment, we are reminded that God speaks honestly because He desires His people to return to Him.
Grab your Bible, find a quiet place, and let's continue our journey through Ezekiel together.

Day 243: Ezekiel 16 and 17

Welcome back to Day 243 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Today we continue our journey through the book of Ezekiel as we read chapters 16 and 17.
These chapters contain some of the most powerful imagery in all of Ezekiel. In chapter 16, God tells the story of Jerusalem as a rescued and cherished child who grew into a beautiful bride. Yet despite God's love, provision, and faithfulness, Jerusalem turned away and pursued other gods. It is a sobering reminder of how easily people can forget the One who has blessed them and place their trust in other things.
Then in chapter 17, Ezekiel shares a parable of two eagles and a vine, revealing the political alliances and misplaced trust of Judah's leaders. Rather than relying on God, they looked to earthly powers for security. Yet even in the midst of judgment, God ends the chapter with a message of hope, promising that He Himself will plant a tender shoot that will grow into a mighty tree, pointing forward to His ultimate plan of restoration.
As you listen today, consider where you place your trust. Are you relying on your own strength, the promises of others, or the faithfulness of God? Ezekiel reminds us that while human efforts often fail, God's purposes stand firm and His promises never fall short.
So grab your Bible, quiet your heart, and let's continue through Ezekiel together on Day 243.

Welcome back to Day 245 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Whether you're joining us in the morning, afternoon, or evening, thank you for making God's Word a part of your day. Today we continue our journey through the book of Ezekiel, reading chapters 21 and 22. In Ezekiel 21, God announces that judgment is no longer a distant warning but an approaching reality. The sharpened sword of Babylon is coming, and the people who spent generations ignoring God's calls to repentance are about to face the consequences of their rebellion. It is a sobering reminder that God is patient and merciful, but He is also just and faithful to His word. Then in Ezekiel 22, the Lord lays out the charges against Jerusalem. Corruption filled every level of society. Leaders, priests, prophets, and people alike had abandoned His commands and pursued their own desires. Yet in the midst of this heartbreaking chapter, we find one of the Bible's most powerful statements when God says He looked for someone to stand in the gap on behalf of the land. It reminds us of the importance of faithful men and women who are willing to pray, intercede, and remain faithful even when the culture around them turns away from God. As you listen today, consider where God may be calling you to stand in the gap for your family, your community, and your generation. His desire has always been for His people to walk in obedience, reflect His character, and point others toward Him. Let's open our hearts, listen carefully to His Word, and begin our reading of Ezekiel 21 and 22.

Welcome back to Day 246 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Whether you're joining us in the morning, afternoon, or evening, thank you for taking time to open God's Word and continue this journey through the Bible.
Today we are reading Ezekiel chapters 23 and 24. These chapters contain some of the most powerful and sobering messages in the book of Ezekiel. Through vivid imagery, God reveals the spiritual unfaithfulness of His people and the consequences of repeatedly turning away from Him. While the language can be difficult at times, it reminds us of God's holiness, His justice, and His desire for wholehearted devotion from those He calls His own.
In chapter 23, God uses the illustration of two sisters to describe the rebellion of Samaria and Jerusalem, showing how both kingdoms chose to follow the nations around them instead of remaining faithful to the Lord. Then in chapter 24, Ezekiel delivers a final warning as Jerusalem's siege begins, marking a pivotal moment in Israel's history. Even in judgment, God is making it clear that He is still in control and that His word will come to pass.
As you listen today, reflect on the importance of faithfulness and obedience. Consider the ways God calls us to trust Him above the influences of the world and remember that His discipline is always rooted in His righteousness and purpose.
Let's begin Day 246 as we read Ezekiel 23 and 24. May God's Word challenge, encourage, and draw you closer to Him today.

Day 247: Ezekiel 25-27

Welcome back to Day 247 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition.
If you have been feeling the weight and seriousness of Ezekiel, hold strong. We are nearing the end of this remarkable book, with only seven days left in our journey through Ezekiel. Though these prophecies can be challenging, they reveal important truths about God's justice, sovereignty, and faithfulness.
Today we are reading Ezekiel chapters 25 through 27. After many chapters focused on God's judgment against Jerusalem, Ezekiel now turns his attention to the surrounding nations. In these chapters, we see that God is not only the Lord of Israel, but the ruler over all nations. Ammon, Moab, Edom, Philistia, and the powerful city of Tyre are all called to account for their pride, violence, and rejoicing over the downfall of God's people.
As you listen, notice how God responds to arrogance and self-sufficiency. The nations believed their strength, wealth, and position made them secure, but Ezekiel reminds us that no kingdom, city, or individual stands above the authority of God. Human power is temporary, but God's reign is eternal.
Today's reading challenges us to place our trust not in worldly success, possessions, or status, but in the Lord alone. It also reminds us that God sees every nation and every heart, and His justice is always perfect.
Let's begin Day 247 as we read Ezekiel 25 through 27. May God's Word deepen your faith, strengthen your trust in His sovereignty, and encourage you to walk faithfully with Him today.

Welcome back to Day 248 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Today we continue our journey through the book of Ezekiel as we read chapters 28 through 30.
In these chapters, God speaks powerful words of judgment against the proud rulers and nations surrounding Israel. We will see the downfall of the king of Tyre, whose pride led him to believe he was untouchable, only to be reminded that no human can stand above God. We will also read prophecies against Sidon and Egypt, where earthly power, wealth, and military strength prove unable to withstand the Lord's sovereign hand.
While these chapters contain warnings of judgment, they also serve as an important reminder for us today. Pride, self-reliance, and trust in worldly power can never replace dependence on God. Throughout history, kingdoms have risen and fallen, but the Lord remains faithful and in control.
As you listen today, pay attention to the contrast between human pride and God's authority. Notice how every nation, ruler, and empire is ultimately accountable to Him. No matter how powerful someone may appear, God alone reigns forever.
Let's open our hearts, learn from the lessons of the past, and continue walking through history together. Grab your Bible, settle in, and let's read Ezekiel 28 through 30.

Day 249: Ezekiel 31-33

Welcome back to Day 249 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Today we are reading Ezekiel chapters 31 through 33.
As we move deeper into Ezekiel, we witness the fall of the mighty and the fulfillment of God's warnings. Chapter 31 compares Pharaoh and Egypt to a great cedar tree that towered above the nations, yet was brought low because of pride. In chapter 32, Ezekiel continues proclaiming judgment over Egypt, reminding us that even the most powerful kingdoms are not beyond God's reach.
Then we come to chapter 33, a pivotal chapter in the book of Ezekiel. God renews Ezekiel's calling as a watchman. A watchman stands on the wall, warning people of danger ahead. The message is clear: God desires repentance, not destruction. He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but calls people to turn from their sin and live. We also see the heartbreaking confirmation that Jerusalem has fallen, marking a turning point in Ezekiel's ministry and in Israel's history.
As you listen today, consider what it means to be spiritually alert. Are there areas where God is calling you to turn back to Him? Are you listening when He speaks, or have distractions drowned out His voice? The message of the watchman is not just for ancient Israel. It is a call for all of us to remain faithful, attentive, and obedient to the Lord.
Thank you for joining us on this journey through Scripture. Grab your Bible, find a quiet place, and let's continue walking through history together as we read Ezekiel 31 through 33.
