Walk Through History: Bible Edition

In 2024, I committed to listening to the entire Bible within a year. As I journeyed through the Old Testament, I found myself wondering where these events fit within the broader scope of history. My search for a comprehensive chronological order of the Bible proved unsuccessful, and it was then that I felt led to create one myself. I invite you to join me on this journey—walking through history as we explore Scripture in its historical context.

It's Day 234 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Wherever you're joining us today, whether it's early in the morning, the middle of a busy afternoon, or a quiet evening, we're grateful you've chosen to spend this time in God's Word.
One of the beautiful truths about our relationship with God is that He simply desires our presence. He isn't concerned with the time on the clock. What matters is that we make room for Him, seek His heart, and listen to His voice through Scripture.
Today, we continue our journey through the book of Jeremiah as we read Jeremiah chapters 46 through 48. In these chapters, we'll see God's judgments against the nations surrounding Judah, reminding us that He is sovereign over all kingdoms and all of history. Even amid warnings of judgment, we are reminded that God is just, faithful, and always accomplishing His purposes.
So, grab your Bible, find a quiet place, and let's continue our walk through history together as we dive into Jeremiah 46 through 48. Let's begin.

Day 236: Jeremiah 51 and 52

Welcome back to the podcast. Today we reach the end of the book of Jeremiah as we read chapters 51 and 52. After pages filled with warnings, calls to repentance, and heartbreaking accounts of Judah’s rebellion, Jeremiah closes with a powerful message: God’s word is always fulfilled. The mighty empire of Babylon, which God used as an instrument of judgment, will itself face judgment. No earthly kingdom, no matter how powerful, stands above the sovereign rule of God. In Jeremiah 51, we see the prophecy of Babylon’s downfall and the certainty of God’s justice. Then in chapter 52, the book concludes with a historical account of Jerusalem’s destruction, the exile of God’s people, and a surprising glimpse of hope through the release of King Jehoiachin. Even in the darkest moments, God preserves His promises and points His people toward restoration. As we finish Jeremiah today, listen for the themes that have echoed throughout the book: God’s holiness, humanity’s need for repentance, the consequences of sin, and the unwavering faithfulness of the Lord. Though Jeremiah ends amid the realities of exile, it also leaves us looking forward to the hope of redemption that God has promised. Let's begin Jeremiah 51 and 52.

Welcome back to Day 237 of our Bible reading journey. Today, we're reading Lamentations chapters 1 and 2, some of the most heartfelt and sorrowful passages in Scripture. These chapters capture the grief of Jerusalem after its destruction, expressing deep loss, repentance, and the consequences of turning away from God.
As we listen, we'll hear the anguish of a people experiencing the weight of judgment, but we'll also be reminded that God invites us to bring our pain, questions, and sorrow honestly before Him. Lamentations teaches us that faith does not ignore suffering. Instead, it brings suffering into God's presence.
So take a deep breath, open your heart to God's Word, and join me as we read Lamentations 1 and 2.
Let's begin.

Day 239: Ezekiel 1-4

Welcome back to Day 239 of our Walk Through History: Bible Edition. Today we begin the book of Ezekiel and read chapters 1 through 4. If you are joining us this morning, afternoon, or evening, thank you for making time to spend with God. He is not concerned with the hour on the clock. He is concerned with a heart that seeks Him.
Today's reading introduces us to one of the most dramatic and awe-inspiring visions in all of Scripture. Ezekiel is given a glimpse of God's glory unlike anything he has ever seen. In a time when God's people were living in exile and feeling abandoned, God reveals that His presence is not limited to a city, a temple, or a nation. He is still sovereign, still holy, and still in control.
As we read, we will see Ezekiel's calling as a prophet and the difficult mission God gives him. We will also witness symbolic actions that illustrate God's warnings to His people. These chapters remind us that God speaks clearly, calls His servants faithfully, and desires His people to listen and obey.
As you listen today, consider how God's glory, holiness, and sovereignty are displayed in these passages. Even when circumstances seem uncertain, God's authority remains unchanged.
Let's open our hearts, quiet our minds, and begin our reading of Ezekiel chapters 1 through 4. May God speak to you through His Word today.
