Walk Through History: Bible Edition

In 2024, I committed to listening to the entire Bible within a year. As I journeyed through the Old Testament, I found myself wondering where these events fit within the broader scope of history. My search for a comprehensive chronological order of the Bible proved unsuccessful, and it was then that I felt led to create one myself. I invite you to join me on this journey—walking through history as we explore Scripture in its historical context.

Day 206 Podcast Intro: Isaiah 37–39 & Psalm 76
Welcome back to Day 206 of our Walk Through History.
Yesterday, we left Jerusalem surrounded by the mighty Assyrian Empire and confronted with a terrifying question: Will God's people trust Him when the odds seem impossible? Today, we witness God's answer.
In Isaiah 37, King Hezekiah brings his fears before the Lord, and God responds with a powerful reminder that no earthly king, army, or empire can stand against His sovereign will. What seems like certain defeat becomes a stunning display of divine deliverance.
Then, in Isaiah 38, the story becomes deeply personal. Hezekiah faces not an invading army, but his own mortality. As he cries out to God, we see a king learning that every breath is a gift and that God's mercy reaches into both national crises and individual struggles.
In Isaiah 39, the tone shifts again. A moment of pride and misplaced trust reveals a troubling glimpse into Judah's future. The chapter reminds us that spiritual victories do not eliminate the need for ongoing humility and faithfulness.
Alongside these narratives, Psalm 76 celebrates the majesty of God as the One who breaks the weapons of the powerful and causes the nations to stand in awe. It is a fitting song to accompany the events of Hezekiah's day, declaring that true security is found not in human strength but in the Lord alone.
As you read today, watch for the contrast between human power and divine power, between fear and faith, between pride and humility. Above all, notice how God proves Himself faithful in every circumstance—whether facing an empire, an illness, or an uncertain future.
Let's begin our reading of Isaiah 37–39 and Psalm 76.

Welcome back to Day 208 of our journey through the Bible. Today we’re reading Isaiah chapters 44 through 48, where God reminds His people of a powerful truth: He alone is God, and He alone can save. In these chapters, Isaiah contrasts the foolishness of idols with the greatness of the Creator, the One who formed His people, knows the future, and keeps every promise He makes. We’ll hear God's tender words to Israel: “Do not fear.” Even after their failures and seasons of rebellion, the Lord has not forgotten them. He calls them back to Himself, offering redemption, forgiveness, and hope. These chapters also introduce Cyrus, a ruler God would use long before he was even born—a remarkable reminder that God is sovereign over history and works out His purposes in ways we could never imagine. As you listen today, consider this question: What am I trusting in besides God? Isaiah challenges us to lay down our idols—whether they are possessions, accomplishments, fears, or desires—and place our confidence in the Lord who declares, “I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” So take a deep breath, open your heart, and join us as we read Isaiah 44–48. Let’s begin.

Welcome back to Day 210 of our journey through the Bible. Today we enter one of the most powerful sections in all of Scripture as we read Isaiah 47–53. These chapters move from the downfall of Babylon and the futility of idols to God's tender call for His people to trust Him alone. Again and again, the Lord reminds Israel that He is the First and the Last, the Creator, Redeemer, and Savior of the world. Even in their failure and exile, He has not abandoned them. As we continue, the spotlight turns to the mysterious Servant of the Lord. The Servant brings justice, restores God's people, and becomes a light to the nations. Yet this victory comes in an unexpected way—not through earthly power, but through humility, suffering, and obedience. Everything builds toward Isaiah 53, one of the most remarkable prophecies in the Bible. Here we encounter the Suffering Servant who bears our griefs, carries our sorrows, and is wounded for our transgressions. Written centuries before Christ, these words paint a breathtaking picture of God's plan of redemption. As you listen today, pay attention to the contrast between human pride and God's salvation, between idols that cannot save and the Servant who willingly gives Himself for others. Notice how God's justice and mercy meet together in His plan to redeem His people. Let's begin Day 210 and discover the hope, comfort, and redemption found in Isaiah 47–53.
