Walk Through History: Bible Edition

In 2024, I committed to listening to the entire Bible within a year. As I journeyed through the Old Testament, I found myself wondering where these events fit within the broader scope of history. My search for a comprehensive chronological order of the Bible proved unsuccessful, and it was then that I felt led to create one myself. I invite you to join me on this journey—walking through history as we explore Scripture in its historical context.

Welcome back to Day 216 of our Bible reading journey! Today we're diving into one of your favorite books... I'm sure. 😂 That's right, we're reading Nahum.
Now, I'll be honest. Even though I've read the Bible cover to cover more than once, Nahum is one of those books that still makes me pause and think, "Wait... is Nahum actually a book of the Bible, or did somebody sneak that in there?" LOL. Every time I come across it, I feel the need to do a quick mental roll call of the Minor Prophets just to make sure it's really there.
But as easy as Nahum is to overlook, it's actually a powerful book. Beneath its short three chapters is a message about God's justice, His patience, and the certainty that evil will not have the final word. It's a reminder that while God is slow to anger, He is also a God who makes all things right in His perfect timing.
So let's give Nahum the attention it deserves today and see what this often-forgotten prophet has to say. Let's get started. 📖🎙️

Welcome back to Day 219 of our Bible reading journey.
Today we begin the book of Jeremiah, reading chapters 1 through 3. In these opening chapters, we witness God's call of a young and reluctant prophet, reminding us that God often uses ordinary people to deliver extraordinary messages. Jeremiah is commissioned to speak truth to a nation that has wandered far from the Lord, even when that truth will be difficult to hear.
We'll see God's heartbreak over Judah's unfaithfulness, His warnings of coming judgment, and yet His enduring desire for His people to return to Him. Through vivid imagery and powerful words, these chapters reveal both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God's covenant love.
As you listen today, consider where God may be calling you to trust Him more deeply, speak more boldly, or return more fully to His ways.
Let's begin Jeremiah chapters 1 through 3.

Welcome back to Day 220 of our journey through the Bible.
Today, we continue our walk through Jeremiah 4-6, where the prophet Jeremiah delivers a sobering message to Judah. These chapters reveal God's heartbreak over a people who have turned from Him, ignored repeated warnings, and placed their trust in false security. Yet even in the midst of coming judgment, we hear God's desire for repentance and restoration.
As we read, pay attention to the urgency in Jeremiah's words. The people were religious on the surface, but their hearts were far from God. Jeremiah's call reminds us that God is not merely interested in outward actions but in genuine repentance and wholehearted devotion.
So wherever you're listening from today, take a moment to quiet your heart. Ask God to reveal areas where you may be relying on your own strength instead of His grace, and to give you ears to hear His voice.
Let's dive into Jeremiah chapters 4 through 6.

Welcome back to Day 221 of our Bible reading journey. Today we're diving into Jeremiah chapters 7 through 9, where God calls His people to examine the difference between outward religion and genuine obedience.
In these chapters, Jeremiah delivers a powerful message at the gates of the temple. The people believed they were safe simply because they had the temple, but their hearts were far from God. Through Jeremiah, the Lord exposes hypocrisy, confronts persistent sin, and pleads with His people to return to Him before judgment comes.
We'll hear God's grief over a nation that refuses to listen, Jeremiah's deep sorrow for his people, and a timeless reminder that what God desires most is not empty rituals, but hearts that know Him. As we read, let's reflect on our own lives: Are we trusting in appearances, or are we truly walking with the Lord?
Let's open our Bibles and read Jeremiah 7-9 together.

Day 222: Jeremiah 10-13

Welcome back to Day 222 of our Bible reading journey. Today we're reading Jeremiah chapters 10 through 13, where God contrasts His sovereignty with the emptiness of idols and continues His call for Judah to repent.
In these chapters, we'll see a powerful reminder that the Lord is the one true God, the Creator and King over all the earth, while the idols people trust in are powerless and lifeless. Jeremiah also wrestles personally with the weight of his calling as he faithfully delivers God's message to a people who refuse to listen.
Through vivid illustrations, including a ruined linen belt and wineskins filled to overflowing, God reveals how far His people have drifted from Him and the consequences that their pride and rebellion will bring. Yet even in these warnings, we hear God's heart, grieving over a people He longs to restore.
As we read today, let's consider where we place our trust. Are we relying on things that cannot save, or are we looking to the Lord, who alone is worthy of our worship, obedience, and hope?
Let's open our Bibles and read Jeremiah 10-13 together.
