Walk Through History: Bible Edition

In 2024, I committed to listening to the entire Bible within a year. As I journeyed through the Old Testament, I found myself wondering where these events fit within the broader scope of history. My search for a comprehensive chronological order of the Bible proved unsuccessful, and it was then that I felt led to create one myself. I invite you to join me on this journey—walking through history as we explore Scripture in its historical context.

As you listen, pay attention to God's faithfulness. Even after seasons of hardship and waiting, God keeps His word and continues His plan for His people. Ezra reminds us that restoration begins when God's people respond in obedience and worship.

Welcome back to Day 261 of our Walk Through History of the Bible!
Thank you for spending time with us as we seek to know God better through His Word. If this journey has encouraged you, helped you grow in your faith, or deepened your understanding of Scripture, please like, subscribe, and share with others who might enjoy walking through the Bible with us.
Today we'll be reading Ezra 4-6 and Psalm 137. In Ezra, we'll see the challenges God's people faced as they worked to rebuild the temple. Opposition, discouragement, and delays threatened to stop the work, but God's plans could not be defeated. Through His prophets and His providence, God strengthened His people to finish what He had called them to do.
Then in Psalm 137, we'll hear the heartfelt cry of God's people during their exile, longing for Jerusalem and remembering all they had lost. This powerful psalm reminds us of the deep sorrow of separation, but also of the enduring hope found in God's promises.
As you listen today, consider how God remains faithful even when obstacles arise and how He can restore what seems broken or lost.

Today we'll be reading the entire book of Haggai. Haggai's message is short, but it is powerful. God's people had returned from exile, yet they had become distracted and discouraged, leaving the work of rebuilding the temple unfinished. Through the prophet Haggai, God calls His people to refocus their priorities, obey His voice, and trust that His presence is with them.
As you listen, consider where God may be calling you to put Him first. Haggai reminds us that true fulfillment is found not in pursuing our own plans, but in faithfully following God's purposes.
So grab your Bible and join us as we read through the book of Haggai and discover an encouraging message about obedience, renewal, and God's faithfulness.

Welcome back to Day 263 of our Walk Through History of the Bible! Today we're diving into Zechariah chapters 1 through 4, where God brings a message of hope, repentance, and restoration to His people after their return from exile.
In these chapters, Zechariah receives a series of powerful visions reminding Israel that God has not forgotten His promises. We'll see God's call to return to Him, a picture of His protection over Jerusalem, the cleansing of the high priest Joshua, and the encouragement given to Zerubbabel as he leads the rebuilding of the temple. One of the most memorable verses in all of Scripture comes from today's reading: "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord Almighty.
As you listen today, consider how God continues to work through ordinary people to accomplish His extraordinary purposes. No matter how overwhelming the task before us may seem, God's Spirit is more than enough to sustain and strengthen us.
So grab your Bible, find a quiet place, and let's continue our journey through God's Word together. If you're enjoying these daily readings, please like, share, and follow the podcast so others can join us on this walk through biblical history.

In today's reading, we'll see visions that remind us that God takes sin seriously and will ultimately remove wickedness from among His people. We also watch as God's attention turns to the nations surrounding Israel, demonstrating that He is sovereign over all the earth, not just one nation.

Welcome back to Day 265 of our Walk Through History of the Bible! It's hard to believe, but you only have 100 days left in this journey through God's Word. Whether you've been here from the beginning or joined along the way, thank you for making Scripture a part of your daily life.
Today we're finishing the book of Zechariah, covering chapters 9 through 14. And yes, I made a little mistake yesterday and didn't read chapter 9, so today we'll be picking up there and continuing all the way to the end of the book.
These final chapters are filled with remarkable prophecies about the coming Messiah, God's faithfulness to His people, and His ultimate victory over evil. We'll read of a humble King coming to Jerusalem, a Shepherd who is rejected by His own people, and a future day when the Lord will reign over all the earth. Many of these passages point directly to Jesus and His work of salvation.
As you listen today, pay attention to how God weaves together both present struggles and future hope. Zechariah reminds us that God is always working out His plan, even when His people cannot yet see the whole picture.
If this daily Bible reading has encouraged you, please like, share, and follow. There are only 100 days remaining in our Walk Through History, and I would love for others to join us as we finish strong together.
Now let's open our Bibles and begin Zechariah chapters 9 through 14.
